About Churubusco, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Churubusco is often shortened to Busco. It is an Indiana town located near the headwaters of the Eel River with a population of about 2,000. Though the township is diminutive and the region is charming, it is not a “dead” area. There is plenty of fresh blood and progressive thinking in this part of the state. The nearby Huntington University offers students the choice to take part in service opportunities throughout the year - local blood drives, short-term mission experiences, student government, etc. The university also plans and hosts many annual events including the “Olympiad” - a popular 4-day athletic event. In short, there is something to do, see or experience for every season and for every interest.

The town is home to the oldest continually held festival in the entire state - Turtle Days! It is based on the story of Oscar the Turtle (or the Beast of Busco). He was giant snapping turtle that allegedly haunted nearby Fulk's Lake. It has been said that many have tried to grab hold of the monstrous turtle but it has not been done. He is described as being the size of a small car. A popular hypothesis as to why this turtle is so mysterious is because the lakes and ponds around town are linked through an extensive sequence of channels, conduits, and streams; some of which are underground. Every August, Churubusco hold a community block party. This free event features local merchants, live tunes, food, contests and other fun. As the leaves change, the town celebrates the year’s spookiest holiday with Halloweenfest - featuring a merchant trick-or-treat, hayrides, costume contest, treats, food, games and more.

Churubusco just finished the first phase of the Downtown Revitalization Project. They reconstructed sidewalks added ornamental lights and landscaping, as well as new benches and trash receptacles. The goal was to enhance the beauty of the downtown area, which is home to many locally owned antique stores, a hardware store, a used clothing store, and various restaurants. The well-known restaurant, Magic Wand, is a family-friendly diner. It has become a landmark. The eatery is famous for its atypical décor (the interior of the restaurant is decked out with hundreds of clowns). The downtown area is perfect for a stroll in the pretty weather in the summer or spring when the flowers are in bloom and the trees are green.
